on palawa land on lutruwita

Our Northern services lie within an area rich with ancient history, beginning from a time when northeast lutruwita/Tasmania was joined to mainland Australia by a land bridge. This area was as the heart of the Stoney Creek Nations, consisting of the leterremairrener, panniher and tyrrenotepanner peoples who would gather at the Cataract Gorge - a significant cultural place, to conduct ceremonies, celebrate Country, hunt and camp. The first significant colonial settlement was established in 1804, fast becoming a commercial centre with surrounding whaling stations, tin and gold mines. Launceston was the second town in Tasmania to be declared a city in 1889.

Our services in the North West are located in areas of incredible natural beauty which had an abundance of natural resources, with remnants of lutruwita/Tasmania's ancient history as First Nation's peoples cared for the western lands with controlled firing. The coastline was rich with seals and shellfish, the creeks with fresh water crayfish and platypus and the surrounding dense forest with kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and various plant foods. The area was first occupied by the colonists in 1827 who create shipping shelters along the coast. It was only in the 1880s that mineral deposits were discovered which created a boom in the Burnie area. Colonial Ulverstone was popular for timber, until it was all cleared, making way for farming as potato, beef and dairy industries were established.

Our Southern services are located on areas that were once territory of of the mouheneenner people of the South East tribe, and the murimimina people of of the Oyster Bay tribe where Aboriginal people had lived and thrived for over 40,000 years. Diverse flora provided plants for food and raw materials to make tools, while game, marine and riverside resources were also abundant. Although the land was first seen and visited by European explorers from the mid 1600s, it was only colonised in 1803 as a British penal settlement, the brutal occupation expanded rapidly in the region with military outposts, whaling and farming established.
