Launceston Early Learning Centre is a state-of-the art service located above the Launceston Health Hub in Wellington Street. This exceptional purpose built facility was established in November 2019. Our service is within walking distance from the Launceston General Hospital and is easily accessed from Wellington Street, making it the perfect location for families that live and work in the local community.
The indoor and outdoor environments have been designed to facilitate play-based learning with natural environments that spark imagination, build resilience and encourage socialisation. The service features an extensive nature-based outdoor environment that fosters children’s natural curiosity and desire for exploration. The service incorporates multiple and expansive outdoor areas that connect to Ockerby Gardens. The interior design incorporates natural light, openness and flow to create a sense of calm for children as they explore the inviting learning environments. The service is equipped with an art studio, giving the children space to express their creativity.
To cater for the needs of the local community the service is open for extended hours from 6:30 am – 10:30 pm Monday to Friday.
Our service provides a warm and inviting environment where we welcome and nurture children and embrace families as partners in our community of learners. We respect childhood and the value of time to be, to play, and to create.
Our service employs two fully qualified chefs to prepare nutritional meals, including breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner depending on your child's session time. Seasonal rotating menus are designed to take into account children’s likes and dislikes, special dietary requirements and the Australian Dietary and Infant Feeding Guidelines.
Launceston Early Learning Centre will be a Move Well Eat Well accredited service.
MOVEMENT TO MUSIC
Launceston Early Learning Centre offers the Discovery Movement to Music program. A local music therapist attends the service each week to help children in areas of development including: fine motor skills through action songs and instrument playing, gross motor coordination through dance, and development of rhythm.
Regular yoga sessions are offered to help children increase their confidence, build concentration and strengthen their growing bodies. Yoga helps build core strength for good posture and overall physical fitness as well as many social, emotional and cognitive benefits.
ACTLIVE - agility, co-ordination and teamwork
Discovery Launceston provides regular ACTLIVE sessions designed to develop children’s agility, co-ordination and teamwork skills. The program offers challenging and engaging tasks, games, movement patterns and skill development for children with a focus on gross motor development.
The Discovery bus enables regular opportunities to go on excursions and strengthen links with the local community. These excursions expose children to a range of different experiences and enable them to further connect with their community. Children also have the opportunity to enjoy regular walking excursions to a variety of locations.
