Illara Preschool is a smaller, innovative service in Glenorchy, which provides high quality care and education for children ages 3-5 years.
Our Preschool program encourages learning, curiosity, creativity and exploration through play and educator led experiences. We promote the healthy use of technology within the educational program through the use iPads and an interactive LED touch screen, used for research and extending on children's learning. Our environment is welcoming and encourages social engagement and a sense of belonging. Children are supported to create and change the environments in ways that reflect their interests, abilities and learning styles, creating delightful spaces full of joy.
The caring, nurturing environment of Illara Preschool allows educators to form strong bonds with families and the children in their care, within a program that is carefully designed to ensure children have the best possible start to school; socially, emotionally and developmentally.
Our service is a lunch box service and provides nutritional breakfast, morning tea and afternoon tea. Our menu is designed to take into account children’s likes and dislikes, special dietary requirements and the Australian Dietary and Infant Feeding Guidelines.
Illara Preschool is a Move Well Eat Well accredited service.
Illara has a strong focus on sustainability and connecting children with nature. Our bush camp creates opportunities for learning and unstructured experiences while exploring the natural environment. Our service regularly visits the Lenah Valley Bush Camp, where they explore the natural bush land, native flora and fauna, flowing creek with fresh pristine water from Mt. Wellington / Kunanyi and hidden treasures rich with history. This experience is an integral part of the ongoing curriculum at the service.
The Discovery bus enables regular opportunities to go on excursions and strengthen links with the local community. These excursions expose children to a range of different experiences and enable them to further connect with their community. These include attending Playgroup at Guildford Young College, Launch into Learning at Dominic College, as well as regular excursions to Glenview Community Services. Children also have the opportunity to enjoy regular walking excursions to a variety of locations.

Karen has been involved in the Early Education and Care sector for 20 years, she has her Diploma in Children Services and her certificate in Training and Assessment. Karen says the sector and working with children keeps her inspired; she loves creating new learning opportunities for the children and watching them grow. Outside of work Karen enjoys travelling with her family and together exploring the outdoors - including horse riding and scuba diving.
