Early Learning Centres - Bungawitta
Bungawitta is committed to providing a high quality early childhood education and care service which nurtures the potential of each individual child within our community, by offering a curriculum which encourages children to explore, challenge and investigate, question and make decisions in preparation for life long learning. Bungawitta’s educational program is based on an image of the child as a capable, confident, creative and active learner with rights. The natural world is a major focus of our indoor and outdoor environments; with spaces to enchant and enrich you child’s imagination, creativity and sense of wonder. The name Bungawitta is an Aboriginal word meaning ‘ home of the possum.’
Bungawitta was established in 1986 to meet the needs of the families who lived and/or worked in the local community. Our proximity to the University, Maritime College and TAFE means that our families come from all over the greater Launceston area. The building created quite a stir in 1986 because of its unique child-focused design and its architect — Robert Morris-Nunn — was the recipient of a major architectural award at the time of the buildings opening. This very same architect has been engaged to help with a redevelopment of the building – creating rich connections with the history of the building while ensuring it meets the needs of children and the community today.
