Giving Back

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give

Winston Churchill

Discovery supports external services, charities and initiatives in being sustainable through our Giving Back to Community program. Each of our services regularly fundraises either in monetary ways, through raising awareness or through the donation of goods; giving back to the community and teaching children to be active community members and socially aware. We are committed to maintaining meaningful links within our communities.

This year we are proud to support a number of charities and initiatives, including:

Bravehearts 777 Marathon

From the 30th June to 6th July, our team mate, Robina, will be participating in the Bravehearts 777 Marathon - a challenging and profoundly rewarding event that involves running seven marathons in seven days across seven states. REgarding this endeavour, Robina says:

"As you may know, Bravehearts is a leading child protection organisation dedicated to preventing child sexual abuse and supporting victims. Their mission resonates strongly with our work in early childhood education, where we are committed to creating safe and nurturing environments for children. Through this marathon, I aim to be a voice for change and a source of strength for children across Australia. "

Robina has aimed to raise $11,000 for the cause, and we are supporting her all the way! The schedule for the marathon is relentless:

- June 30th: Perth, WA

- July 1st: Adelaide, SA

- July 2nd: Melbourne, VIC

- July 3rd: Hobart, TAS

- July 4th: Canberra, ACT

- July 5th: Sydney, NSW

- July 6th: Gold Coast, QLD

Discovery is proud of Robina taking onboard this challenge, raising funds and awareness for a cause very close to her heart, as she states "This journey will be tough, both physically and mentally, but as gruelling as it may be, it’s nothing compared to the pain experienced by victims of child abuse. That pain lingers for a lifetime, leaving scars that never fully heal."

Discovery is also supporting team in this year's Variety Bash. Our donation to to the Kings of Atlantis team car is used immediately by Variety – the Children’s Charity to deliver grants of equipment and services, Variety Heart Scholarships, programs and experiences to kids who need it most. As our CEO, Jo Walsh, wrote:

"The long-standing success of the Variety Bash and the outstanding support that they have provided disadvantaged children across Australia fits perfectly with our values and commitment to giving all children the opportunity to thrive."

We wish the Kings of Atlantis team (car #4017) all the best. You can support them to by visiting their donation page HERE

Another proud partnership Discovery has is our ongoing relationship with Reconciliation Tasmania. This year we have started partnering with them for their National Reconciliation Breakfast events, which Discovery has enjoyed participating in, in the years past. As Reconciliation Tasmania stated:

Discovery ELC remain one of our most committed Narragunnawali partners for reconciliation in education. We know that educating children about Tasmanian Aboriginal histories, and Tasmania’s true history, is fundamental to achieving long-term change and meaningful reconciliation in this state. There is a clear and urgent need for early and ongoing exposure to reconciliation activities in order to combat racism and racial discrimination, and to activate young hearts and minds as a driver of intergenerational change. We acknowledge the strong leadership of Discovery in this area; through the ways in which reconciliation education in embedded in your everyday learning program, and in creating an environment which fosters a higher level of knowledge and pride in Aboriginal histories, cultures and contributions.

It's connections like these that continue to support us on our journey of continual improvement and improve the outcomes for children and families and embedding Aboriginal history and culture in our everyday educational program.

Initiated by team members within Discovery, we also very proudly have a team set up for Australian Red Cross Lifeblood called Discovery Early Learning Centre. Our services challenge each other to join the team and make donations as the blood bank is in serious need of donations. For our team mates who are able to donate, we are reminded that not only does the donation make you feel good, but also helps us save lives.
