Community Fundraising

Each service regularly fundraisers either in monetary ways, through raising awareness or through the donation of goods; giving back to the community and teaching children to be active community members and socially aware. Recently Discovery services Dominic and Illara have each fundraised for worthwhile causes - raising much needed funds and awareness for the organisations BCC Africa and the Pajama Foundation.

Discovery Dominic ran a Winter Raffle with hampers and prizes that were generously donated by local businesses. The centre raised a total $405 for BCC Africa. BCC Africa has a key focus on education of children who call Bethlehem Community Centre in Kenya their home. They also provide funds for other activities that help improve the lives of the children.

Our Illara service had great fun with a PJ day to raise awareness for The Pyjama Foundation. The foundation has a learning-based mentoring program called the Love of Learning Program, which involves matching one adult with one child. The foundation screens and trains their volunteers, called ‘Pyjama Angels’. The Pyjama Angels are matched with a child in foster care, they visit the same child every week, for up to 1.5 hours to read books aloud, play educational games and work on their numeracy skills. The volunteers help children develop their learning skills and perhaps more importantly, demonstrate that the child is valued as an individual.
