Bush Fire Relief Fundraising

We were all devastated at the beginning of this year as we welcomed 2020 with vision of raging bush fires across the east coast of Australia. Discovery services and families banded together with fundraising initiatives run across many of our services. We wanted to raise funds and offer families affected by the bush fires some kind relief and support.

Discovery pledged to match any amount donated by families to further boost the fundraising efforts. Discovery families donated generously with a total of $2933.70 raised across all the services! This meant that Discovery matched this amount and added a further $2933.70 to be donated to charity!

Discovery chose Rural Aid and Red Cross charities due to their ongoing commitment to the people and communities who have been so adversely affected by the bush fires, compounded with challenges of ongoing drought and then the hardship caused by Coronavirus pandemic.

Red Cross emergency teams welcomed people who had fled the fires at evacuation and recovery centres across the country, they also continue to offer emergency grants for those needing help covering everyday expenses. Rural Aid is one of Australia’s largest rural charities. Well known for the highly successful ‘Buy a Bale’ campaign, the charity also provides financial assistance, water and counselling to farmers in times of drought, flood or fire. Other initiatives support its vision that farming and rural communities are safeguarded to ensure their sustainability both during and after these natural disasters.
